What We Do

what we do

Our Mission

We provide free, comprehensive, out-of-school programs that help children in underserved communities. Children receive academic support, mentorship, health & fitness activities, and transformative opportunities that will keep them safe and help them succeed in school and in life. Our vision is for our All-Stars to be safe and healthy, to graduate high school, to find careers they love, and then give back to their communities.

Programming

Our innovative model makes programming available in a variety of sites, year-round, and providing added supports like our mentorship program.

School-Based

ASAS Ohio provides programming for students in grades in public elementary school sites in both Columbus City Schools and Toledo Public Schools. Students enrolled in one of these school based sites are eligible to participate in our program. Please see our current locations.

Community-Based

ASAS Ohio provides programming for students that live in housing authority sites in both Columbus (CMHA) and Toledo (LMHA). Only students living in the CMHA or LMHA specific site are eligible to enroll in our program. Please see a list of our current locations.

Mentorship

ASAS Ohio’s new mentorship initiative pairs youth enrolled in our program with a member of the Columbus Division of Fire, Columbus Division of Police, or Ohio State Highway Patrol. These first responders will provide support, hope, and guidance to children who can benefit from mentoring in our community. Learn more here.

Summer Time

Students enjoy field trips and fun activities that are typical of summer camp, while also receiving academic lessons to prevent the “summer slide” - the tendency for children to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year. 2023 Summer Program Information will be released in the spring of 2023. Stay tuned for more.

Academics

Our trained staff use evidence-based curriculum to help our children succeed in the classroom. We use LitArt curriculum which combines award-winning books with innovative and engaging activities to improve a child's reading comprehension, vocabulary, and interest in learning.

Each child recieves 64 hours of direct literacy programming!

health and wellness

Health & Wellness
While less than a quarter of school age children participate in daily physical activity, ASAS Ohio offers health & fitness activities every day during programming. Studies have proven students who participate in health & fitness activities tend to have better grades, school attenance, and behavior. Health and wellness includes:

  • Physical activities
  • Social Emotional Learning Instruction
  • Healthy Meal/Snacks

"If it weren't for ASAS, I would not be as active and happy."

Enrichment

ASAS offers a safe, nurturing environment for children to go after school, supporting working families. Parents can feel at ease knowing their children are safe and are receiving the attention each child deserves to thrive and succeed in school and in life.

Social-Emotional Learning improves student attitudes towards school, and reduces depression and stress, and thanks to ASAS, 77% of All-Stars report supportive adults and a social support system. 98% of All-Stars families would recommend ASAS to other families.

"If it weren't for ASAS I wouldn't know how to control my anger and wouldn't understand who I am as a person."
- Alani, 8th Grade

"This is an amazing program. My child's confidence in his abilities has soared since joining this program."
